Description

In 2008, Dominic Lamontagne and his partner Amélie decided to settle in Sainte-Lucie-des-Laurentides with their two children, motivated by the desire to escape the asphalt, to take the key to the fields and to learn to feed themselves by their own means. To their great surprise, the project encountered numerous regulatory obstacles. Despite these constraints, they managed to build a food production farm on less than one hectare of cleared land, made up of a limited number of dairy goats, laying hens and broiler chickens.

Step by step, taking into account the legislative framework and environmental standards in force, this practical guide, including more than 250 illustrations by the author, teaches you how to:

  • raise laying hens, broilers and dairy goats on land of less than one hectare;
  • favor seasonal breeding over pasture;
  • build a mobile cage for raising broiler chickens and a mobile henhouse for that of laying hens, a table for milking goats and a small poultry slaughter station, supporting illustrations;
  • produce, process and cook your own eggs, poultry and dairy products;
  • prepare fresh cheese and make goat's milk soap;
  • create a self-sustaining ecosystem to ensure your livelihood.

Whether you are interested in agriculture on a human scale or dream of having a small farm and practicing diversified, non-mechanized and ecological subsistence farming, The Artisan Farmer is a source of information of unprecedented magnitude. Let's eat freely!
