The seeds are harvested from September. They are used popped, like corn kernels; in oatmeal; in flour, for making cakes or muffins; or as is, like poppy seeds. This plant reseeds and grows quickly once established. It reaches 1,5 m in height and is adorned with remarkable orange-yellow flower spikes 30 cm long.
