Catnip is easily propagated by seed, by tracer roots and by layering or cuttings. Commonly used as a medicinal plant in the Middle Ages, it helps digestion, relieves colic, colds and fevers. Catnip essential oil is also an excellent insect repellent comparable to DEET (see a recipe here).
