Fistulous Monarda – Organic

Monarda fistulosa

4.49$

This spectacular native perennial plant is very fragrant. Its pink flowers are particularly nectar-producing, and they attract pollinators, butterflies and hummingbirds. Its aromas combining pepper, lemon and mint have earned it its common names of false bergamot or wild bergamot. Its foliage is also aromatic.

Hardy up to zone 3, this perennial prefers well-drained soils that maintain a certain freshness, although it tolerates drought for some time. In growing conditions similar to those of its natural environment, meadows or exposed areas, it resists fungal diseases in general. In comparison to the common monarda (monarda didyma), the fistula is less prone to mildew and its scent is stronger. Like all plants of this kind, it is better to associate them in landscaping with other competitive plants which will limit their expansion.

Its flowers and leaves are aromatic and edible. They are generally consumed as herbal tea. Consult an herbalist for its antifungal and antibacterial properties.
