Poppy Amphora – Organic
Papaveraceae Papaver somniferum Annual that reseeds
4.49$
This cultivar stands out for its simplicity and country elegance in the garden. Its pink flowers with creped petals are followed by amphora-shaped seed capsules, hence its name. These pods have the quality of remaining well closed for longer on the precious oilseeds. Children love these Lilliputian percussion instruments!
As with most poppies, 'Amphora' is subject to slight variations in its beautiful pink and white color. Due to the chance of pollination, it is possible to have some flowers all white, others all red and even some bearing white and red separately.
Use :
It is necessary to consider the culinary benefits of poppy seeds, often used in baking and pastries. They are very rich in vitamin B1 and calcium. They are particularly oilseed, since they often contain more than 50% of popsicle oil, a fragrant oil. They also contain a certain amount of protein.
Sowing:
Growing poppy is very easy, because it can be seen in the garden as an annual plant that never needs to be resown! It is then a matter of leaving the seed capsules on site and nature will do the work.
It is therefore easy to sow directly in the garden. If necessary, the seedlings will need to be thinned to ensure enough space for each seedling (30 cm square).
Starting your plants in small pots from April is also a good idea. Transplant if necessary when the plants reach around 4 cm. Wait for the ground frost to end before transplanting to the garden. Provide a spacing of 30 cm in diameter for each plant. The ingenious gardener will plan to stagger his sowing to have a longer flowering period in the garden.
