Blue verbena – Organic
Verbenaceae vervain up to Perennial
4.49$
Haste verbena, or blue verbena, is found in older texts under the name of Heal-all plant, sacred herb or witches' herb. It is sometimes recognized as having aphrodisiac virtues, but more often, it seems to be used for its tonic effects. We pick the leaves while they are still young and the tips of the flowering ears to make herbal teas and other decoctions.
Native to western and central Quebec and the northeastern United States, this member of the Verbanaceae family is generally found in wetlands or around lakes and rivers. She appreciates ditch raising.
A hardy perennial, large verbena has sturdy stems that can reach up to two meters in height. Its long spikes of flowers bloom in the heart of summer. In beds, the bright green of its foliage combines with the long and abundant flowering to become a structuring asset for large-scale arrangements. Covered with resplendent little blue flowers, its spikes can reach 60 cm in length to create a simply spectacular clump.
This verbena attracts all pollinating insects, particularly bumblebees. Seed-eating birds also like it, as it reseeds easily. This explains why it is sometimes seen as a potentially invasive plant in the garden, especially since its root system is made up of suckering rhizomes.
Easy to grow, it prefers generally cool and humid soils. Dry environments should be avoided, although it can tolerate, over short periods, both drought and flooding. You should be wary of flower spikes at the end of the season due to numerous spontaneous seedlings.
Production:
Direct sowing done in the fall respects the natural conditions of the cycle of this perennial. For sowing in a pot, provide a layering a few weeks and sow from March or April
