Absinthe Grande – Organic

Artemisia absinthium

4.49$

Known to have been a key ingredient in the manufacture of a cult alcohol for a whole generation of French poets, absinthe, also called the "green fairy", has also been used for a long time by humanity for its medicinal and hallucinogens! This imposing perennial (up to 1,5 meters in height!), very little affected by diseases and naturally protected from harmful insects, produces recognizable and characteristic deeply cut leaves with greenish gray undersides with silver reflections. In a layout in a very sunny and very dry area, this plant is an asset to stand out both for its size and its color and its magnificent yellow flower heads attracting pollinators. Finally, wormwood is often cited as an ally in companion planting since it repels aphids and flying parasites. Its anise-flowering foliage is fragrant at the slightest contact.

It is possible to use its foliage to flavor dishes with a sweet anise aroma.

In traditional herbalism, it is used as a dewormer and as a tonic for digestion. However, be aware that it contains a neurotoxic and hallucinogenic molecule, thujone, which is also found in thuja. It must be used knowingly, with caution and under the recommendations of a professional. A location in the garden away from pets and children as well as discretion regarding its properties are simple, but crucial, measures, since improvised or accidental uses could have harmful consequences.

Note: This plant tolerates pruning well at all times, but it benefits from pruning in spring to make it denser.
