Spearmint – Organic

Appreciated for its fresh aroma and bright green leaves, Spearmint is one of the most widely cultivated varieties of mint. Highly prized in cooking, it adds a refreshing touch to salads, desserts, teas and cocktails, such as the famous mojito. It also has digestive and soothing properties, making it ideal for infusions.

Since spearmint also reproduces by rhizomes, it has the potential to become invasive. To address this, it may be wise to choose a more isolated growing space, or to use underground physical barriers that will delimit its growing space.

It is an easy-to-grow perennial plant that is hardy in almost all regions of Quebec. In addition, it attracts many pollinators when it flowers.

Note that the germination rate of mint is naturally low (generally between 40 and 50%). On the other hand, since it is an easy-to-grow perennial plant, a few plants will be enough to create a good-sized patch in a short time, either by natural spreading of the plants, or by the action of the gardener who could practice cuttings or division of clumps.
