Manitoba Brown is a semi-determinate soybean plant reaching 45 to 60 cm in height with numerous and robust branches. He does not ask to be tutored. Dark brown grains harvested when ripe are produced early (80 to 95 days). Manitoba Brown soybeans can be eaten while green as edamame (steamed when the pod is full and round) or ripe and dry. It is then consumed in legume dishes, in soup, in tofu. It is a reliable variety whose production is abundant and regular.

This cultivar was developed by the Manitoba Agricultural College, Canada, before 1922, specifically for northern cultivation.
