The real name of this round radish with rough greenish-white skin is shinrimei for “magnificent heart radish” in Mandarin. That's the least we can say since the heart of this root is a beautiful bright pink which sometimes takes on an orange tint.

Its crunchy texture and milder flavor than common radishes make it a children's favorite radish. It requires a little more effort to enjoy, as its tough skin deserves to be peeled. Fortunately, its size is larger than that of our small red radishes, up to 10 cm in diameter. It is served plain, in a carpaccio, baked or roasted. However, it loses its beautiful color when cooked. This winter radish can be kept for up to three months in the refrigerator, in a perforated plastic bag.
