Solanaceae Solanum lycopersicum Annuelle
4.49$
It is said that Aurelius Plourde of Saint-Alexandre-de-Kamouraska began growing this tomato in 1925 and made it a true family heirloom. Jeannot Pelletier, the husband of one of Aurélius' great-nieces, entrusted the care of preserving this heritage treasure to René Paquet. After growing this tomato and observing its excellent qualities, Mr. Paquet donated seeds to Heritage Seeds Canada so that wider distribution could contribute to its survival. In his description of the Plourde tomato, René Paquet wrote that it “… is a beauty of yesteryear which, over time, unfortunately came to forget its identity, its roots”.
Characteristics
The determinate growth plant produces beautiful, round red tomatoes late in the season, with ribbed shoulders. Their firm and juicy flesh of a beautiful light red has a remarkable flavor, sweet and without bitterness. The branched clusters each bear between 3 and 10 fruits for a total yield per plant of around 30 tomatoes. Each fruit weighs between 150 and 300 g. The plant reaches 1 m in height with a width of 45 cm, if staked, and 60 cm, without support.
Number of days for harvest: 80 to 90
