Seeds grown in an ecological and responsible manner by Akène, forest culture

A native North American plant found at the edges of forests, in clearings and meadows, the heliopsis acts as a real magnet for butterflies, pollinators and birds.

In our gardens, we have also noticed that it can serve as a trap plant for aphids who will prefer it to other market garden crops nearby.

In addition to offering its services as an auxiliary plant in the vegetable garden, its very abundant flowering makes it an excellent ornamental plant that is used at the edge of gardens which it dominates from the top of its 90 to 125 cm stems.

Its deep, fibrous roots also make it very useful for stabilizing soil and reducing erosion.

Heliopsis seeds must undergo cold stratification to successfully germinate seedlings. See Description below for details.

Sowing and cultivation

For heliopsis seeds to germinate, cold stratification is necessary. Simply mix one volume of seeds in 3 volumes of damp vermiculite, a mixture that will be placed in an airtight bag in the fridge for approximately 30 days.

Once stratified, the seeds can be sown in place in the garden.

You can also sow directly in place in the fall, stratification will then take place naturally outside, but the germination rate may be reduced.
