Asteraceae Lactuca sativa var. capitata annually

This variety of butter lettuce originally from Austria dates back to the 1700s. It's unclear if it's still grown in its country of origin, but it has resurfaced in North America in recent years. Indeed, Renee Oberdorf, a farmer from Oregon who carefully preserved this lettuce passed from hand to hand in her family, shared it with the American seed company Wild Garden Seeds, also from Oregon.
Perfectly adapted to the cold climates of the Alps, it is sown as soon as the land can be worked in spring. Its thick, crunchy leaves, green tinged with red and with a perfect buttery taste, form a heart very quickly. The relatively small apples are, however, very dense.
Number of days for harvest: Young leaves: 30 | Mature leaves: 55
