Gogosar pepper – Organic

Capsicum annuum

4.19$

This pepper, originally from Romania, was widely grown commercially there from the 1920s. With the establishment of communist agriculture after the Second World War, other crops were favored, but local farmers continued to produce them for their personal needs. Today, Romania's agricultural traditions are no longer what they were before the war and the commercial cultivation of this type of pepper is only timidly resuming. It is also found in Bulgaria, Serbia, Hungary and Moldova.

The large, fleshy, sweet fruits with a rounded, flattened shape have compact, juicy flesh that is thicker and crunchier than most other varieties. Each 200-250 g pepper has a beautiful wine red color. Certain cultivars have been selected over the years.

Gogosar group peppers are great to eat raw, in salads or with dip, stir-fried, stuffed, canned or marinated. They are rich in antioxidants, folic acid, iron, magnesium, zinc and selenium and vitamins A, B, C and K. Like most red fruits, they are also an important source of lycopene, which has a protective effect against prostate cancer and would help prevent cardiovascular diseases, diabetes, osteoporosis and even male infertility problems.
