Description

Between 1760 and 1867, despite great upheavals in the country, women and men made significant efforts to better understand Canadian plants and their uses. After the era of explorations and discoveries, science is quietly taking its place. A German botanist, who had in his hands plants collected during the famous Lewis and Clark expedition, wants to write a Canadian flora. A mother of 10 children finds time to herbalize and enrich collections of Canadian specimens. The greatest naturalist painter of his time, James Audubon, studied birds and plants in the Natashquan region. Three French-Canadian priests became famous: the first for his work on Canadian flora, the second for his career as professor of botany at the brand new Laval University and the third for his free popular herbal remedy.
