A perennial plant whose life is rather short, Mauritania mallow, particularly floriferous, has the quality of easily resowing itself.
It remains a plant of choice due to its erect habit which launches its flowers up to 1,5 meters above the ground on robust stems. Illuminating the garden until frost, its long dark fuchsia flowering with petals streaked with purple veins is bright and spectacular, not to mention that it attracts many pollinators.
Its leaves and flowers are edible. But beware! Rich in mucilage, its edible parts will act as a mild laxative. Herbalism has several uses, cutaneous, among others, but consulting an expert is essential.
Easy to grow. Note that it requires, however, a layering to obtain a good germination rate.
