Bellflower Toraji – Organic

Platycodon grandiflorus

4.19$

Many gardeners already cultivate this perennial plant for the beauty of its flowers without knowing that it has many therapeutic properties.
Also known as balloon flower and large-flowered bellflower, its name comes from the shape of its flower buds which resemble large balloons. It produces edible roots and leaves with astringent, anti-inflammatory, digestive, expectorant, antitussive, analgesic, antibacterial and slightly sedative properties!
In Japan, the young leaves are added to salads and in Korea, the thick roots are stripped of their bark and added to soups, pickled or preserved in syrup. In the garden, it likes rich, fresh and well-drained soil, in sun or partial shade. It is hardy to zone 3 and grows to 50 cm in height. Its flowering in August and September attracts hummingbirds and butterflies.
